So first off… we are not mixing charcoal and watercolour in one piece (although that can work!).
I’m always going on about what great companionscharcoal and watercolour are, and for good reason.
Charcoal is all about tone, and often the simpler we keep it, the better.
It’s an incredibly intuitive, straightforward, and simple medium to use, and it very quickly improves our drawing, shapes, and tones.
Which… are the absolute cornerstones of watercolour, particularly if you want to loosen up a little.
So based on all of that, the concept is simple.
In each of the three sessions, we’ll start with a charcoal drawing, looking at simple approaches and techniques, and using it as a great way to study and really understand the subject.
Then, in the second half, we’ll move into a watercolour painting of exactly the same subject.
The idea is that the charcoal — whilst extremely fun and a finished piece in its own right — also acts as a study for the watercolour...
...and a really good one at that, because we’ve already worked out a lot of the painting all ready and we can focus on translating this to a fun alively watercolour!
We’ll be working on a bird in session one, wildlife in session two, and a human face in session three. I find solid “objects” like this work particularly well.
A Google Drive folder access link will contain everything you need reference photos, course instructions, a suggested materials guide, and the Zoom and high definition re watch links after the session.
Google Drive is by far the easiest and smoothest way to access everything in one place. In rare cases, for those who prefer not to use it, I can send the information separately.

CANCELLATION POLICY & EXTRA NOTES
Once payment is made I’m afraid all bookings are final. No refunds can be given for student cancellation. Bearing in mind you will have full lifetime access to stream or download the content.
By lifetime I simply mean that even if any of the third party hosting platforms disappear in the future there will always be an HD copy available somewhere for you to access.
I reserve the right to move dates and times, but only in genuinely unavoidable circumstances. This has happened on rare occasions but it is extremely uncommon.
In the event that I cannot run the course, it will be moved to a future time. Refunds will only be issued if the course never runs (and there's only a couple of extreme reasons it would never run!)
It is the student’s responsibility to learn how to use Zoom and Google Drive, and to check timings and time zones well in advance. I’ll always help where I can, but within a couple of hours of a live session starting I’m not available for troubleshooting.
