Every so often, a project comes along that is an absolute joy to be part of—great fun to do, and tied to a cause close to my heart.
Nine Days in Eden is certainly one of those.
What started as simply the use of an existing painting I had done of a wild dog to be included in this wonderful book soon turned into a series of watercolours to support the stunning photos and fascinating stories—as well as a much larger piece to incorporate all of the prominent animals and birdlife of the Eden: the Okavango Delta, the sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari on the African continent.
This larger piece was a real challenge—bearing in mind I love a challenge, especially this sort!
In this case, creating a composition that worked, stayed painterly, and still incorporated all the various elements and characters from this magical place was a LOT of fun.
And I’m very proud to have it as one of the many beautiful images that accompany the stories.
The essence of the book is nine inspirational days spent in this Eden by the book’s creator, Alexandra George.
The fascinating stories, which transport you to this incredible place, are accompanied by breathtaking photos—and now, some of my watercolours too!
