Since coming up from only really beginning to paint with watercolour (more than the sporadic dabble) around maybe seven years ago, there have been certain artists whose work has been a huge inspiration—and who I’ve held up in extremely high watercolour regard. One day, maybe, I could aspire to be at that level…
Becoming a Daniel Smith Ambassador put my name up amongst many of these artists I greatly admire. And now, I’ve been invited to be part of—and demonstrate at (scary!)—an event I’ve looked at with wishful eyes for some time: the International Watercolour Masters.
And whilst I still very much feel like little me amongst some of watercolour’s biggest names (maximum imposter syndrome!), I couldn’t be more excited and honoured to be up there with some true watercolour heroes.
This is a biennual event, and whilst the next one isn’t until May 2026, I wanted to share my excitement at being part of this fantastic celebration!
I think part of what makes this event so unique here in the UK is that it’s a real celebration of watercolour—a medium that’s often seen as not particularly serious, or not as valuable as oils, charcoal, etc.
But despite that wider belief, there are sooo many artists pushing the boundaries of what watercolour can be. It’s a wild, exciting, vibrant, and modern medium—and this show celebrates that, in such a diverse and inspiring way.
So, whilst it’s still a way off, do check out the website—and keep an eye out for plenty more info to come.
