HOW to DRAW: Online Mini-Course

What is drawing really? And does it really matter that much?

Now stick with me here for a moment… keep reading, even if you might not want to hear this… but whatever your medium, favourite subject, or style, improving your drawing will improve your painting. I promise.

I hear this all the time:
“I can’t draw, I just want to paint.”

But I think what people really mean is “I don’t enjoy the act of drawing with a pencil,” or they think of drawing as a dull, academically perfect rendering of subjects with a pencil. It can be that, of course, but that is not what drawing truly is.

Drawing has nothing to do with pencils specifically. It’s about understanding shapes, proportions, relationships, and how things sit together on the page or canvas. That’s the stuff that makes your artworks look confident and intentional, whatever your medium.

Once you understand those shapes, you can tackle anything accurately and with far more ease even subjects that used to feel complicated or overwhelming.

The way you create those shapes can be expressive, personal, and a core part of your individual artistic voice.

Yes, I’ll be using a pencil and maybe some charcoal in this course to show you these core drawing principles but this is not a pencil drawing course. You’ll learn how to create accurate, well proportioned shapes with simple perspective so you can create with more freedom and far less stress.

And here’s the good news: a few core principles and a bit of guided practice can drastically improve your painting whether you prefer to sketch loosely in charcoal or pen, set up a watercolour with a quick drawing, or dive straight in with paint in any medium.

This course will show you how to start any subject simply and clearly, build strong compositions, understand accurate shapes, and find your own expressive way of drawing and painting.

You may even find yourself enjoying drawing more than you thought!

CANCELLATION POLICY & EXTRA NOTES

Once payment is made I’m afraid all bookings are final. No refunds can be given for student cancellation. Bearing in mind you will have full lifetime access to stream or download the content.

By lifetime I simply mean that even if any of the third party hosting platforms disappear in the future there will always be an HD copy available somewhere for you to access.

I reserve the right to move dates and times, but only in genuinely unavoidable circumstances. This has happened on rare occasions but it is extremely uncommon.

In the event that I cannot run the course, it will be moved to a future time. Refunds will only be issued if the course never runs (and there's only a couple of extreme reasons it would never run!)

It is the student’s responsibility to learn how to use Zoom and Google Drive, and to check timings and time zones well in advance. I’ll always help where I can, but within a couple of hours of a live session starting I’m not available for troubleshooting.
