People in Watercolour

Join me for a day of painting people in watercolour.

Painting people can feel a little intimidating, but it's actually a huge amount of fun. With a few pointers and a little shift in mindset it doesn't have to be any harder than any other subject!

Starting with a few tips and a couple of warmup exercises, we will then move into painting a more pulled back figure in the morning. By this I mean most of the figure in the painting but still relatively closeup - think musician, child playing on the beach, person in market place etc.

In the afternoon we will focus on a full face; but not a "formal" portrait attempting an exact likeness, rather a fun and expressive capture of a face.  No pressure for a likeness but rather focus on capturing a face in watercolour whilst having fun doing so!!

In both cases I will talk you through some very simple and easy to apply ideas and a simple process to get great results.

I hope this day will set you up in feeling a little more confident to paint people moving forward!

The general format of the day will be quick demos from myself, followed by attendees guided painting,

Follow my demos, bring your own photos, or a mixture of both.

  • Church House is on a pedestrianised street just off the hight street.
  • It does not have it's own parking. There is sometimes parking space by the town hall (less than a minute walk)
  • A small free car park at the bottom of the road ( a few minutes walk)
  • Park next to Waitrose (a four minute walk)
  • It is sometimes possible to park near the venue to quickly unload and then drive to parking.

DISABILITY ACCESS

The entry to Church House Main Hall is on street level, accessed of a Pedestrianised Street (Butter Street), so wheelchair access is fine.

There is a disable toilet which can be accessed via a private alleyway down the side of the building. This does not take any extra time than going through the hall but avoids a small set of steps.

The Kitchen is right by the main hall, with direct access down the small steps. However, Wheel chair access, whilst a little tight, is possible by going down the alleyway and back into the building from the rear (this is all within a relatively small distance); but of course, I am more than happy for those that need it, to make hot drinks and empty / fill up water pots etc.
